A Flair for Flamenco Academy teen named Presidential Scholar in the Arts Applications accepted The National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts seeks student artists for youngARTS 2009. The early registration deadline is June 16. Registration ends Oct. 1. Finalists chosen from the registrant pool will be mentored by artists for a week in Miami. The foundation nominates some finalists for possible Presidential Scholars of the Arts awards. Go to www.youngARTs.org or call (800) 970-2787 for more information. By Timothy Zila, Junior, Homeschooled For the Journal Flamenco dancer Alice Blumenfeld will perform at the Baryshnikov Arts Center this week. The Albuquerque Academy senior is one of 34 young artists attending a weeklong residency in New York. These teens are selected from the youngARTS program, which is designed by the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts to nurture budding artists, according to the foundation’s Web site. Her flamenco dancing also lead to her being named a Presidential Scholar in the Arts. They are chosen from the youngARTS finalists. On May 1, she and two other New Mexico teens were named Presidential Scholars.

Hero’ worship Game creator living out rock star dreams By Jordan Smith McClatchy Newspapers SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Imagine a 14-year-old high school freshman playing “Guitar Hero III” with one of its creators and the freshman beats him badly at his own game. Well, that’s not what happened, but I did have the opportunity to play a few games of “Guitar Hero” with Charles Huang, vice president and co-founder of Red Octane.
